☀️ An inspiration from the sky

According to the most widespread tradition, the colours of the Argentine flag represent the blue sky and white clouds visible above the Plaza de Mayo during the revolutionary events.

🎖️ Manuel Belgrano and the cockade

It was Manuel Belgrano, a major figure in the independence of Argentina, who officially adopted these colours in 1812. He first created a blue and white cockade to distinguish the patriotic troops from the Spanish royalist forces.

Shortly afterwards, he raised the Argentine flag for the first time in Rosario. Light blue and white then became the colours of the nation in formation.

🌞 And the sun in the center?

The famous "Sol de Mayo" (the Sun of May), added later to the center of the flag, represents:

  • The sun appeared during the May Revolution
  • The Inca heritage , a symbol of rebirth and sovereignty.
